Vitamin B12 Injection Clinic

YOUR LOCAL VITAMIN B12 TECHNICIAN

In September of 2022 Hedd completed his training with The VitB12Shot Academy following his own health journey involving macrocytic anaemia (whereby the red blood cells in the body are not able to supply the body with enough oxygen, leading to fatigue and dizziness and in Hedd's case irregular heart beat and pins and needles in the hands and feet).

WHAT IS VITAMIN B12?

A vitamin is a tiny molecule which the body cannot make by itself.  B12 is a vitamin which can only get in your diet via animal products (including poultry, fish, eggs and dairy) and foods fortified with B12.  We cannot get B12 from plants or sunlight.

It is surprisingly easy for your body to miss out on getting B12 - even in those who eat all of the foods rich in B12.  Those of us who are following a largely plant based diet without supplementing are almost certainly going to be low on B12.

It can also affect people with a history of abdominal surgery, which can prevent your body absorbing B12. Many drugs for conditions such as diabetes can interfere with how B12 is absorbed also.  Use of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is also cited as triggering a drastic change in the levels of this vitamin in your system.

Without plentiful B12 the body can struggle to form proper red blood cells, synthesise DNA and keep the fatty protective covering of your nerves (myelin) healthy.

Many of the symptoms commonly linked to low levels of B12 which has led to anaemia include*:

  • Extreme tiredness (fatigue)

  • lack of energy (lethargy)

  • breathlessness

  • feeling faint

  • headaches

  • pale skin

  • noticeable heartbeats (palpitations)

  • hearing sounds coming from inside the body, rather than from an outside source (tinnitus)

  • loss of appetite and weight loss

)

Symptoms of a problem with B12 due to anaemia include*:

  • a pale yellow tinge to your skin

  • a sore and red tongue (glossitis)

  • mouth ulcers

  • pins and needles (paraesthesia)

  • changes in the way that you walk and move around

  • disturbed vision

  • irritability

  • depression

  • changes in the way you think, feel and behave

  • a decline in your mental abilities, such as memory, understanding and judgement (dementia)

VITAMIN INJECTIONS

VitB12 can be safely and quickly administered via an intramuscular (IM) injection at a medically approved and appropriate dose.  These injections are available at Clinig Corff Ystwyth following a thorough consultation.

The form of B12 given is hydroxocobalamin.  We only used a UK licensed product which is GP prescribed via the referral system which we use at no extra cost to you.

NHS guidelines recommend a course of injections in order to 'load' your body with B12 if you have some more of the advanced symptioms.  Injections are given every other day for two weeks or until your symptoms begin to improve.  The frequency of the treatment is then reduced until you have achieved sustainable improvement.

For those interested in exploring how vitamin B12 shots can improve a sense of health and well-being the injections can be given weekly for around a month, reducing to every 1 to 3 months depending on your response.

You will be given plenty of information to get the most out of this treatment which will include:

  • The need to also take daily B12 supplements

  • The need to also take folic acid, especially before beginning your course of injections

  • The need to also take magnesium

  • The need to also take Vitamin D

  • The need to also take iron supplements

  • The need to include large amounts of potassium rich foods once you begin your course

You will also be given plenty of advice regarding:

  • Why B12 injections may not be appropriate for you

  • The small risk of anaphylactic shock after an injection

  • Modifications to your lifestyle in order to give the course of care the best chance of working for you.

HOW DO I KNOW IF THIS IS RIGHT FOR ME?

To get a better idea of your suitability for this treatment we offer a free consultation whereby you complete a short health questionnaire for assessment before having a face to face conversation at the clinic to discuss your general health and your current symptoms.

Following this consultation, your referral is sent via our online portal to the GP referrer, who will aim to approve your prescription for the injections within a day or two.

HOW MUCH DOES THIS COST?

We offer a complete package to those with a more complicated set of symptoms to give you the maximum chance to respond well to a course of vitamin B12 injections.

This package includes:

  • A free initial consultation to explore your health history, current symptoms and suitability for the injections

WHY VITB12SHOT?

VitB12Shot and the VitB12 Academy were formed in conjunction with UK medical professionals due to the growing issue of individuals providing Vitamin B12 injections with no control over practices or products being used.

As a leading training provider VitB12 Shot aims to make people considering Vitamin B12 injections aware of the importance of using properly trained technicians and approved products under the control of dedicated UK Doctors and Nurse Prescribers – allowing them to access healthcare professionals where available for an appropriate consultation and medical assessment.
